I suppose hummus is like marmite. Either you love it or hate it. For me it’s a new and interesting taste. Not something I would devour every day but it just gets my taste buds engaged a lot. In the end you can adjust hummus for your taste, again a matter of spices. If you can’t find a ready tahini you can make one, it’s really easy. Recipe for hummus is quite standard and apart from some spices you can’t go too crazy here, my reference recipe was this one.


  • 1 clove of garlic
  • 200 gr canned chickpeas
  • 1/2 tbsp salt
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1/3 tbsp cumin
  • 3 tbsp tahini paste
  • 1 tbsp water
  • 1/3 tbsp black pepper
  • juice from 1/2 lemon


Drain the chickpeas and put into your food processor along with all other ingredients. Whizz for 2-3 minutes until the paste become creamy and smooth. If you want thinner consistency add another spoon of water. Plate it up and sprinkle with red hot pepper, fresh parsley, cumin, lemon juice and olive oil. You may think it’s only for decoration but it will really boost the taste and make it more yummy.

Goes well with pita bread or a selection of veggies.
