Sweet’n’Sour Chicken Breast

This is one of my favourite chicken breast recipes. It’s very simple, doesn’t require a huge amount of ingredients and most importantly you can make it in no time. I found this recipe long time ago in some women’s magazine but I did modify it substantially. I’m sure there was ginger, garlic and some chili flakes involved in it as well but with time I just minimised it to five basic ingredients. Main reasons for that was just to have a quick, tasty dish at minium effort for those days when you are back from work late and don’t really feel like cooking. It works for me and you can serve it with anything really; bread, rice or even bulgur. I like the simplicity of flavour here but if you want to boost it you can add some chili flakes or ginger.

Ingerdients:

  • 300 gr chicken breast
  • 1 onion
  • 2-3 sp dark soya sauce
  • 2-3 sp honey
  • juice from 1/2 large lemon

Preparation:

Heat some olive oil in your pan and add finely chopped onion. Let it fry little bit until it is soft. In the meantime wash and cut chicken breast into smaller chunks. You can cut it in longer strips or just dice it up. Add the cut chicken breast to fried onions and continue frying. Once all your chicken pieces turn white on the outside you can add soya sauce. Dark soya sauce will coat the chicken pieces and give them nice dark colour. Also the onion will soak up the sauce and become practically black. So you don’t have to worry that it burned, it just absorbed the sauce. You can also use light soya sauce and it will give you similar taste effect but it will not colour the chicken the same way. After 10 minutes add honey and lemon juice, if the soya sauce evaporates too quickly you can always add a little bit water just to prevent burning. Cook it on medium heat for another 5 to 10 minutes. And then it is ready, preparing this won’t take you longer than 30 minutes and it doesn’t even require a lot of labour yet it manages to surprise you with yummy flavours.
